ELEVEN elderly residents and a staff member have tested positive to COVID- 19 at Jewish Care Victoria’s residential home in Windsor.

Initially one elder and one staff member were diagnosed on Monday, August 3 and the home went into a complete lockdown.

Following immediate and initial testing of all residents, Jewish Care on Wednesday announced a total of 11 elders had returned a positive test.

A dozen other elders are awaiting their results.

Jewish Care Victoria CEO Bill Appleby said the residents were “currently stable and being cared for by our staff with clinical oversight from our care coordinator, the elders’ respective GPs and Alfred Health in-reach services”.

“Although we know how serious this virus is for vulnerable people, we hope and pray that our elders make a full recovery,” Appleby said.

“Families are being kept up to date with regards to their condition. Our thoughts are of course with our elders and staff member and we wish them all a speedy recovery.”

All residents at the Windsor home are being cared for in their rooms and staff are wearing full personal protective equipment.

Appleby stressed that the “safety and wellbeing of our elders, staff and the community is our most important concern and we will continue to take every precaution to ensure their wellbeing”.
