ANTI-Defamation Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich recently met with Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau to discuss the resurgence of antisemitism in Victoria and across the nation.

During the 45-minute meeting at Government House, the pair also spoke about the growing problem of racial and religious bullying at schools.

“I thank Governor Dessau for the opportunity to brief her on the dramatic rise in antisemitism in Australia and around the world,” Abramovich said.

“The Governor deeply understands the threat that the scourge of hate poses, and has been at the forefront of condemning all forms of intolerance and bringing communities together in strengthening the core values that bind us.”

He said the discussion also focused on the “role public figures play in using their office to make it clear that extremist groups have absolutely no place in our politics or society”.

“We are fortunate in Victoria that in Governor Dessau we have such a leader,” Abramovich added.
