Chanukah comes early
Festival lights up Parliament
State MPs, including the Premier and Opposition Leader, joined Jewish leaders and communal identities at a pre-Chanukah celebration at NSW Parliament House.
CHANUKAH came early to Macquarie Street this year as politicians joined together with Jewish leaders to celebrate the festival of lights.
Rabbi Benjamin Elton and Rabbi Eli Feldman led the Chanukah prayers as Rabbi Nochum Schapiro lit the shamash.
The eight candles on the menorah were then lit by different representatives from the community.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Opposition Leader Jodi McKay and NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBOD) president Lesli Berger all spoke, while Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton acted as MC.
Representatives of other communities and faiths were also among the more than 250 people in attendance.
