DOUBLE Bay will come alive with the flavours of Shabbat at a pop-up Israeli shuk on Thursday, November 14.
The first of its kind in Sydney, the Shabbat Shuk will tantalise the senses and bring the community together in an extraordinary, one-stop shopping experience in the lead up to the Shabbat Project.
Organised by the Shabbat Project and UIA, the shuk will feature an array of high-quality kosher food including delicious, ready-to-cook and ready-made Shabbat meals.
“Our community loves a good ‘fress’ and one of the best ways to get our community together is through food,” Shabbat Project chairman Danny Sekers said.
“This unique experience will bring the vibe of Machane Yehuda to Sydney in a whole new way.”
A curated selection of gourmet food offerings will be available from kosher favourites like Woolworths, Pita Mix, Amaze in Taste, Millee’s Deli, The One that Got Away, Naked Foods, Ben & Jerry’s and more.
Shoppers will be enticed with challah and pastries, fish, chicken, meat, salads and fresh produce, with a decadent array of desserts and alcohol topping off the gourmet experience. Light meal options to eat on the run will be available too.
The buzz of the shuk – at which The AJN will also have a stall – will be complemented by live music, food tastings and an interactive kids’ activity zone.
“As media partner of the Shabbat Project, The AJN is very excited to have a stall at the shuk,” AJN CEO Joshua Levi said.
“We encourage members of the community to come say hello and get a free paper.”
As the sun goes down, the party will continue at The Golden Sheaf’s “Bazaar Bar” – a kosher pop-up bar that will continue late into the night.
“With this event, we have made sure that there is something on offer for everyone,” Shabbat Project Sydney lead project manager Kate Samowitz said.
“The energy of an Israeli shuk just before Shabbat is electrifying and we wanted to create the same amazing experience right here in our own community.
“A large part of the magic of Shabbat is in the anticipation and preparation, so come and join us for a gastronomic experience to delight all of your senses.”
The shuk will be open from 3-7pm. The Golden Sheaf’s Bazaar Bar Pop up will be run from 3pm till late.
Entry is free. To register, visit events.humanitix.com.au/shuk.
