Interfaith leaders come together

PRESIDENT of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, Jeremy Spinak, last week joined key religious leaders and Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello at the inaugural NSW Religious Leaders’ Forum hosted by state government.

Spinak said the forum, in which participants discussed ways to improve social harmony in NSW, is an important platform for relationship building as “it is very rare to have key religious leaders from all the major faiths sitting around the same table”.

“It is our hope that this initiative will strengthen channels of communication between religious communities and create a space where difficult issues can be addressed openly and with candour,” he said. “It is an ambitious initiative and I was very pleased to be invited to represent the NSW Jewish community.”

Dominello told The AJN, “Through the NSW Religious Leaders’ Forum, the NSW government hopes to strengthen interfaith understanding and tolerance throughout all segments of society at a time of considerable global conflict and unrest.

“I commend the leaders who have come together … It demonstrates their commitment to promoting peace, their strength of character and their efforts to serve in the best interests of all Australians.”
