Jewish triathletes qualify for world titles

Five Jewish triathletes have been chosen to represent Australia at the International Triathlon Championship World Titles on the Gold Coast in September.

FIVE Jewish triathletes have been chosen to represent Australia at the International Triathlon Championship World Titles on the Gold Coast in September, after they qualified by successfully completing a number of events over the summer.

The five selected were all part of the medal-winning Australian team at last year’s Maccabiah Games.

Sydney father and son duo Julian (60-64 age group) and Daniel Rifkin (30-34) and Melburnian Barry Lipp (60-64) will compete in the Olympic distance of 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.

The Rifkins represented Australia in the 2017 world championships in Rotterdam, while Daniel won gold at Maccabiah in his age group for the open water swim and silver in triathlon.

Lipp has represented Australia at three world championships, and also won bronze at the Maccabiah Games for his age group in triathlon.

Josh Goldstat (40-44) and Neil Slonim (65-69) will compete in their first world championships in the sprint distance of 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.

Goldstat won four gold medals in his age group at Maccabiah 2017 in the triathlon, half marathon, open water swim and MacMan events, while Slonim took home two golds in his age group for triathlon and MacMan, and bronze in the open water swim.

Three other Maccabiah team members, Alan Kaplan, Brett Yudelman and Jordan Cohen, missed out on selection.
