Legal eagles in shul
IT was less a case of appearing before the jury than appearing before the Jewry last week as Sydney’s top legal minds turned out in force at the Great Synagogue for the annual service and dinner to mark the opening of the law term.
IT was less a case of appearing before the jury than appearing before the Jewry last week as Sydney’s top legal minds turned out in force at the Great Synagogue for the annual service and dinner to mark the opening of the law term.
The service was conducted by the shul’s chief minister Rabbi Benjamin Elton, cantor Joshua Weinberger and the Great Synagogue Choir, conducted by Robert Teicher.
The ACT Jewish Community’s Rabbi Alon Meltzer also took part in the service, which is the first time a rabbi from Canberra has been involved.
Among the guests were NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton and the president of the NSW Court of Appeal Margaret Beazley. Chief Justice of NSW Tom Bathurst led the procession of judges and lawyers and afterwards addressed the official dinner.
