Maccabi shares junior title

THE Maccabi AJAX Junior Cricket Club’s under-13 Panthers have shared the premiership with Toorak-Prahran Blue after a heart- stopping tie in the final of the Southern District and Churches Cricket League.

Maccabi bowled extremely well on day one of the final to restrict its opposition to 91 runs, but its batsmen came up against quality bowlers and struggled to score runs at a consistent rate.

After stuttering early, captain Dylan Kadish and star Riley Michelson got the Panthers back on track, before Kadish eveventually fell for 11 in the 26th over.

Michelson continued to hold up his end and tick the runs overswith three boundaries, but he was then sent packing on 25.

Justin Spicer (10 runs) played a key role, but the middle order batsmen continued to fall.

A superb last-wicket partnership from Zac Reichenberg and Bailey Melzak saw Maccabi draw level on 91, before Reichenberg was caught to tie the game and give both teams a share of the premiership.

Michelson was awarded the Michael Catts trophy for the Maccabi AJAX player of the finals.
