FOUR Jewish athletes put in a standout performance for Wesley College at the recent Victorian APS Combined Athletics Sports 2012 finals at Lakeside Stadium.

Twelve-year-old Piper Montag was awarded the outstanding female athlete of the meet for Wesley College, as she and sister Jemima, together with fellow Jewish competitors Madeleine Pianko and Charlie Rosenberg, ensured Wesley took out the event.

Piper won five events in total at the championships, including the triple jump, shot put, long jump, 80m hurdles and 100m sprint, as well as placing second in the 200m and 4x100m events.

The junior star is ranked highly in the state for several track and field events, and has been selected to compete for Victoria at the School Sport Australia 12 Years and Under Track and Field Championships in Adelaide later this month.

Jemima, who is the Australian under-15 race walk champion, won the under-16 1500m event by over nine seconds and is continuing to star for both school and state in the long-distance races.

Pianko finished second in the under-16 triple jump event, missing out by 21cm, before recording a third place position in the long jump, 29cm away from first spot.
Rosenberg took out second in the under-13 high jump event with a jump of 1.25m, but fell 10cm short of the eventual winner.

In other news, Maccabi Athletics Club athlete and Leibler Yavneh College student Saul Lotzoff, aged 12, recently recorded an extremely quick time of 15:25 in the 4km event at the Sri Chinmoy Maribyrnong River Run.
