PB for Montag at nationals

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jemima Montag posted a PB at the Australian/Oceania 20km Race Walking Championships in Adelaide last weekend, but that wasn't enough to win.

JEMIMA Montag smashed her finish time that won her gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the women’s 20km race walk by a fraction under two minutes at last weekend’s Australian and Oceania Race Walking Championships in Adelaide, but setting a new PB wasn’t enough to earn her a title this time.

The Melburnian – who turns 21 this week – placed third overall and was the second-fastest Australian finisher, posting a speedy time of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 51 seconds, breaking her previous PB by 35 seconds.

She set the pace early on with 18-year-old Queensland surprise packet Katie Hayward [1:29:25], but 26-year-old Colombian Sandra Lorenas showed her class in the last few kilometres, breaking away to win.

Montag shared her feelings about her performance on social media.

“So happy to do a 20km PB and put a qualifier down for the World Championships+World Uni Games later this year.”

Maccabi Athletics Club member Jason Kozica was impressive in the men’s 20km race, finishing 7th.
