School return delayed
The first four days of term 3 – which is due to begin on Tuesday – will see pupils across Greater Sydney return to online learning after the lockdown was extended for another week.
SCHOOL students across Greater Sydney will return to the classroom on Monday, July 19 after the NSW government announced on Wednesday that the current lockdown will be extended for another week.
The first four days of term 3 – which is due to begin on Tuesday – will see students return to online learning, however the state government has insisted that schools “will remain open for students who need them and no child will be turned away from school”.
“This decision is based on health advice from the Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant and will assist NSW Health’s efforts to contain the delta strain,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
On Monday, NSW Health revealed that a student at Rose Bay Public School – which is attended by several Jewish children – had tested positive for COVID-19
This brings the total number of cases linked to the Bondi cluster to more than 260.
The student is a close contact of a previous case and Rose Bay Public was closed to visitors on Monday for contact tracing and cleaning.
Noting that all staff and students at Rose Bay Public had been told to self-isolate until
further instruction by NSW Health, Moriah College told parents on Monday, “We ask all Rose Bay Primary School siblings not to attend our ELCs until they have been cleared by NSW Health.
“At this point, until NSW Health issues further instructions we are not mandating non-
attendance, however we are asking families to take this precautionary measure.
“We understand that it may be inconvenient, however, we need to prevent the further spread of COVID in our community.”
Meanwhile, popular Jewish-owned cafe Bake Bar in Double Bay was listed as an exposure site, with anyone who attended the eatery between 11am and 11.30am on Sunday, June 20 considered a close contact.
They must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result.
Coles Rose Bay, Randwick, Eastgate Bondi Junction and Maroubra were also listed as exposure sites.
The government has pleaded with the community to continue to come forward for COVID-19 testing to help find any unrecognised chains of transmission in the community.
