FOR the 14th consecutive year, JewishCare NSW will host its annual Men’s White Ribbon Day breakfast, imploring men to be ambassadors for change to end violence against women.

With a focus on stopping the violence before it starts, the theme for the 2019 breakfast is the impact of domestic and family violence (DFV) on child and adolescent emotional development.

Child, adult and family psychiatrist of international renown, Professor Garry Walter will deliver the keynote address. As professor and chair of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Sydney for over a decade, Walter will highlight issues faced by children and adolescents affected by DFV.

JewishCare NSW president Jason Sandler told The AJN the aim of the breakfast is to “raise awareness around and help eliminate domestic violence and violence against women”.

“Whilst the White Ribbon Day organisation no longer exists, sadly the problem still does. As a community we must work to educate ourselves and our friends and family about this issue and how we can effect positive change,” he said.

“This year’s speaker Garry Walter will provide some unique insights into the implications of domestic violence. I encourage as many men as possible to attend.”

JewishCare NSW’s Men’s White Ribbon Day Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, November 26 from 7.30am-9am at JewishCare, 3 Saber Street, Woollahra. RSVP to whiteribbonday@jewishcare.com.au.
