THE Jewish Emergency Management Plan (JEMP) has issued a message from the NSW Jewish communal leadership following news the Victorian government has reimposed a six-week lockdown for Melbourne and some regional towns.

In a statement, JEMP noted that the number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria “continues to increase significantly”.

“In light of this major development, we urge the NSW Jewish community to adhere strictly to the restrictions imposed by our state government,” the message said.

“This means that anyone who has recently travelled to Melbourne must self-isolate for 14 days upon their return.

An important message to the community in light of Victoria reimposing a six-week lockdown.

“We further recommend that communal institutions ask their staff and any visitors to their premises whether they have recently travelled to Melbourne, and to review their distancing and other health and hygiene practices to ensure they are being strictly complied with.”

JEMP added, “The situation in Victoria is a reminder that this pandemic remains with us. We understand the hardship, frustrations and fatigue caused by restrictions. However, safety remains paramount.”

Meanwhile, Jewish Care Victoria says it is taking “all necessary precautions”, in accordance with Department of Health requirements for aged care providers, following the stay-at-home orders.

“The difficult decision has been made to once again restrict visitation to all our homes except in exceptional circumstances where visitors are supporting end of life care,” the organisation said.

“Elders will not be able to leave any of our homes except for medical appointments. We understand and acknowledge the impact this decision will have on both our Elders and their families.”

It added, “This is a dynamic situation and [we] will continue to be vigilant to ensure that our highest priorities remain the health and safety of our Elders, clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.”
