A building for the future

ALL of Mount Scopus Memorial College’s years 4, 5 and 6 students jumped into the air and cried “yippee” as Member for Chisholm Anna Burke declared their new primary school open.

The new building – an open-plan charcoal and lime-green two-storey structure incorporating classrooms, assembly areas and a library – was described by Mount Scopus principal Rabbi James Kennard as “the fulfilment of a dream”.

The combination of $4 million in donations from the school community and $2.7 million from the federal Government meant Scopus was able to rebuild its original Burwood primary school, which Rabbi Kennard described as “past its sell-by date and no longer fit the purpose”.

Burke commended the Jewish community for its focus on “faith, education and culture”.
