A new year miracle

A MIRACLE occurred just hours into the new year when three-year-old Levi Silva survived a five-metre fall out the window of a Bondi flat.

Ellie Nagel expected the worst when she noticed her son and the fly screen had both disappeared from her bedroom in seconds.

“I was terrified and I really thought I’d lost him,” the 28-year-old mother of three said.

But miraculously, Levi not only survived, but was able to walk away with only a broken arm.

“Someone was taking care of him because you can receive serious spinal injuries from a smaller fall from that,” she said.

“He landed on his face but he wasn’t making any noise so at first we didn’t know what happened.”

Levi was climbing from a rocking chair into the cot and while his parents had their backs turned he leaned on the fly screen for balance.

The flimsy covering though did not hold the boy’s weight and he fell out backwards through the fly screen.

“I looked up and saw the fly screen missing and then I saw he was gone and my first instinct was to tell my husband to go down and get him and to call 000.

Nagel praised emergency services for their speedy response on New Year’s Day.

“The ambulance came very quickly thankfully and they only held him in hospital for four hours for observation.

“I don’t understand how it happened, but since we’ve moved furniture away from the windows and we are looking at getting strong fly screens throughout the apartment.”
