VETERAN NSW golfer Brian Harrisberg toppled all comers at the 2013 Australian Jewish Golf Championships, producing a stellar final two rounds at the Royal Pines Golf Course on the Gold Coast.

Though numbers were slightly down from last year’s national event, the quality of golf certainly wasn’t, with the result hanging in the balance right to the end of the last round of play of the 54-hole event.

The first two rounds of the competition saw Victorian Bob Sadlon, who plays off a handicap of 12, upstage the low-handicap favourites.

Sadlon shot 81 and 78 to find himself just one shot behind leaders Harrisberg and Andrew Hurwitz.

The Victorian also held a staggering 12-shot lead in the Stableford event, which runs simultaneously alongside the main tournament.

All eyes were on Sadlon heading into the final round of play, to see whether he could reel in the favourites and produce an upset.

But he posted a disappointing round of 89 to drop down the rankings, while Harrisberg stormed away with the title thanks to a superb 79, holding off a fast-finishing Keith Robertson and Hurwitz to record the two-shot win.

Sadlon did manage to take out the Stableford tournament, finishing five shots ahead of Robertson and the rest of the field in a dominant display.
