JEWISH Super Rugby player David Horwitz proved the difference for the NSW Waratahs in their desperately needed round five away win against the Melbourne Rebels last Friday.

After a horror start to the season, losing three out of four games and leaking far too many points, the Waratahs won 32-25, with Horwitz scoring a try with only seconds left in the game.

Horwitz shed light on that memorable moment when speaking at the Maccabi NSW Jewish Sports Awards on March 26, describing it as a “huge relief”.

“There were three [Rebels] defenders drifting towards Izzy [fullback Israel Folau] and I just saw a little gap and decided to take it through myself.

“Thankfully it worked, but more importantly it got the win we needed.”

It was the gifted centre’s first game in the Waratahs’ starting side this season.

NSW play Kiwi powerhouses the Canterbury Crusaders this Sunday at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.
