Israeli children return to school without fear of rockets

The new school year started in Israel this week.

Less than a week after the end of Operation Protective Edge, the children are able to freely return without having to run to bomb shelters.

But to combat the effect of the war, Israel’s 2 million students will attend class about how to deal with trauma.

One of the activities will ask students to discuss difficult experiences they faced during their summer break.

Israel’s education minister Shai Piron said students won’t return to school to their regular classes straight away.

“Together we had an unconventional summer,” Piron said.

“Therefore the opening of the school year will be different from previous years.

“We will open this year with the first two weeks encompassing a framework of mitigation (from the war), until we gradually return to a normal routine.”
