ISRAELI female tennis stars Julia Glushko and Shahar Peer have been sent packing in the first round of the French Open, leaving the country’s hopes for success at Roland Garros with dynamic duo Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich.

Glushko, who won her way through three qualifying rounds and is now ranked 149, is likely to surpass Peer on the world rankings, with the former top- 20 set to drop even further beyond her current 140.

Peer was no match for Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, with the world number 4 winning 6-1, 6-1 in less than an hour.

Glushko came into the main draw with plenty of confidence after win- ning all of her qualifying matches, but fell to Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-2, 7-5.

Ram and Erlich have reunited for the grand slam event, teaming up for the first time since their Davis Cup World Group Playoffs win over Japan last September.

Meanwhile, Canadian Jesse Levine was downed by Japan’s Kei Nishikori 6- 3, 6-2, 6-0.
