JEWISH golfers Giora Friede and Jason Rubenstein recently took out the Australian final of the 2012 Audi Quattro Cup and will travel to South Africa in late November to play other finalists from around the world.

“We played really well, the both of us,” Friede told The AJN.

“We won by one shot, so it was very close. We were definitely going to have fun, but after we won the first round of competition, we did focus on the second one.”

The Jewish pair defeated around 30 teams from across the country and will now represent Australia against Audi owners and top golfers from all corners of the globe in the final.

“It’s very exciting,” Friede said. “Audi has spent a lot of money worldwide and they also sponsor Maccabi Golf [in NSW], so it is quite fitting for two Jews to win and it’s a good thing for the Jewish community.”

Friede, almost 49, and Rubenstein, 22, are close family friends and have formed a strong relationship on and off the course, which is required to win a stableford tournament.

“Jason is actually a lot younger than me,” Friede said.

“His dad and I are good mates and we play regular golf together.

“He is also in the Australia team going to the Maccabiah Games next year, and I am trying to get in the team.”

The world final of the 2012 Audi Quattro Cup will take place from November 23-27
in Western Cape, South Africa.
