THE junior boys and girls basketball teams heading to Israel for the 19th Maccabiah Games in July have ramped up their preparation, with Maccabi gaining the services of two big names in basketball.

The club last week ran a two-hour session with world-renowned pro basketball trainer Ganon Baker, who works with over 10,000 players a year and has sold more than 55 bestselling instructional DVDs.

Baker applied similar techniques on the junior ballers as he does with the likes of NBA stars Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Chris Paul, Vince Carter and Amar’e Stoudemire, who will also be venturing to the Maccabiah Games as an assistant coach for Canada’s open men’s team.

The players will also be taking part in a 10-week training program under the guidance of former Australian Boomers player and NBL Rookie of the Year Damien Ryan.

The initiative is designed for Ryan to both improve the skills and techniques of the players, as well as act as a team-building experience and prepare them for the intense environment of the Maccabiah period.
