THE Sydney Jewish community will host a vigil on Wednesday, October 31 at The Great Synagogue to pay respects to the victims and survivors of the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, USA.

Co-hosted by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Emanuel Synagogue and The Great Synagogue, the one-hour service will be led by Rabbis Benjamin Elton and Jeffrey Kamins.

The massacre was the worst attack against the Jewish community in US history.

“The shooting was an extreme example of hate turned to physical violence,” said Board of Deputies president Lesli Berger. “The victims, the survivors and the Pittsburgh community deserve our thoughts and prayers at this time, and we encourage the community to turn out as a mark of respect and solidarity.”

All are welcome. The service will begin at 6pm.
