THE world’s oldest rabbi Yitzchok Dov Koppelman, head of the Lucerne Yeshivah in Switzerland, visited Melbourne this week for a fundraising dinner for his organisation. The oldest rabbi to have ever visited Australia, the 105-year-old, universally known as the Zekan Roshei HaYeshivot, the world’s senior yeshiva head, addressed students at the Adass Israel school and its Yeshiva Ketana. Rabbi Koppelman also delivered public lectures at the Adass shul and at Kollel Beth HaTalmud, which attracted hundreds of listeners from across the Orthodox community. Rabbi Koppelman is a leading disciple of Rabbi Shimon Shkop, the world-famous pre-war Rosh Yeshiva of Sha’ar HaTorah in Grodno, near the Polish Lithuanian border. Rabbi Koppelman has been the Rosh Yeshiva of Lucerne since 1963.
